Beth El Teens & USY
About our teen programs
Beth El teen programs are opportunities for all 7th-12th graders to participate together in a safe, fun, and Jewish environment. These include Thursday night teens (TNT), United Synagogue Youth (USY), and our Madrich program, where teens can connect with their peers and create experiences rooted in Jewish culture and values. Our integrated educational and social programming prepares Jewish teens to be confident and thoughtful Jewish adults.

Thursday Night Teens (TNT)
Thursday Night Teens (TNT) includes our 8th-12th graders and meets every Thursday night from 6:00-8:00pm. During TNT our teens develop the skills needed to navigate our changing world as informed by Jewish thought. They gain an opportunity to engage in more mature learning about current events and contemporary Jewish life, as well as engaging in social and USY-related programs. This includes dedicated time for all grades to participate together in teen-led planning, activities and socialization, as well as for participants to connect in grade-level cohorts. Dinner will be provided.
Our TNT participants also connect with the broader San Diego Jewish community, through events such as the ADL's Walk Against Hate, the annual San Diego Jewish Film Festival Teen Screen and the Shabbat San Diego Challah Bake.
United synagogue youth (USY)
USY is the Conservative Movement’s program for Jewish teens across North America and Canada. USY empowers Jewish youth to develop friendships, leadership skills, an understanding of social action/ tikkun olam and the impact they have to entice change, a sense of belonging to the Jewish People, a deep engagement with and love for Israel, and a commitment to inspired Jewish living through meaningful and fun experiences.
USY at Beth El is an engaging and meaningful experience with many opportunities for leadership and connection. Our chapter has won many awards, including earning recognition as a Chapter of Excellence for many years. Chapter members are eligible to register and attend a variety of Beth El USY, San Diego, Far West regional, national and international events.
Chapter membership fees are $75, which also enables a member to attend the USY program during TNT. Additional costs may be associated with programming.

Madrichim
9th-12th Graders are eligible to serve as Madrichim (guides, counselors) in the Viterbi Torah School. Teens play a variety of roles in our school, both supporting and assisting teachers, and guiding and role modeling great behavior, and dedication to community, for our students.
Madrichim are assigned roles based on their unique skills and interests so that all participants can make a personally satisfying contribution. Teens are eligible to accrue community service hours for their work in the school.
